A
steadily growing list of US industries have benefitted from the influx of
foreign investment capital over the past years. Agriculture, tourism, renewable energy, transportation and
education are all getting a much needed boost from government sponsored
Regional Centers, which operate with
the help of capital raised by foreign investors participating in the EB-5
program. Those who qualify and
receive EB-5 Visas will receive their green card in exchange for a significant
investment which will in turn create much needed jobs in economically challenged
areas here in the United States.
This mutually beneficial transaction is attracting a large number of
wealthy Korean and Chinese investors who are looking to reside in America and
contribute their resources in a meaningful way. Dilapidated regions receive an economic boost from the
Regional Centers which look to stimulate the local economy and create new
jobs.
The
EB-5 Regional Center program was introduced by the USCIS in the early 1990s to
attract foreign investors and essentially lure their capital stateside in
return for a green card. This
initiative came after Canada and Australia made similar efforts to attract
foreign investors in the late 1980s.
The US maintains stringent protocol for its EB-5 investment program, not
granting permanent residency until the investment is proved to have created new
jobs. Despite rigid requirements,
Asian investors are excited about the financial opportunities and immigration
benefits available through this program.
